What You Get When You Take Poetry and Combine With Computer Science

The lists here are sorted by popularity (2014), but you'll quickly notice that it isn't a traditional top chart of popular names.
We've Analyzed Rate And Applied The Following Rules...
Repeating soundsRepeating sounds in a first and last name are more pleasing. We're only showing names with one or more of the following letters: R, A, T, E.
Syllable count and rhythm
You should generally avoid the same number of syllables in the first and last name. Rate is a 1 syllable surname. We have removed all baby names with 1 syllables.
Ending letter
We've removed all baby names ending with the letters r and e. This will create better rythm and flow.
Length
Short names typically go well with long surnames, and vice versa. We've analyzed over 150,000 surnames and the surname Rate is a short last name. We're not showing names with 4 (or fewer) letters.
Alliteration
Alliterative names - with first and last names starting with the same letter/sound - is a subject that many people have strong feelings about. You either love them or hate them and we've therefor created a separate list with alliterative names.
Assonance
Assonance takes place when two or more words close to one another repeat the same vowel sound. Assonance is primarily used in poetry in order to add rhythm. By repeating vowel sounds in a first and last name you can create a name with nice rythm.
We've created a separate assonance top chart matching vowels and vowel sounds in Rate.
Consonance
Consonance refers to repetitive sounds produced by consonants within a sentence or phrase. This repetition often takes place in quick succession such as in pitter, patter. It is classified as a literary term used in both poetry as well as prose. By repeating consonants in a first and last name you can create a name with nice rythm.

Alliterative names
You either love them or hate them. Alliterative names - with first and last names starting with the same letter/sound - is a subject that many people have strong feelings about. Those that hate them typically think they are too cutesy or "matchy-matchy". They just make it too hard to take a person seriously. These people actively avoid giving this type of name to their children. If you're feeling that way that's ok. Just skip this section. What's interesting though is that they are loved for the same reason they are hated - because of the matchy-matchy sounding. This makes the name easy to remember, more memorable and can instantly turn your name into a "brand" of sorts.
The memorable factor is also why many celebrities use alliterative names. We may think that they choose this, and some deliberately do, but many more are actually given alliterative names. Does this make it easier for them to reach stardom? Who knows. But some are plainly happy with their alliterative names, as some alliterative celebrities (Sylvester Stallone, Robert Rodriguez, Steven Spielberg) have continued the tradition with their own children.
Other examples are Coco Chanel, Greta Garbo, Hulk Hogan, Marilyn Monroe, Danny DeVito, Ronald Reagan or Matthew Mcconaughey. And, of course, some of the biggest brands in the world such as Coca Cola, Dunkin Donuts, Best Buy and Range Rover.
Applying the rules and filters outlined above, we've identified the following alliterative names that sound really good with Rate.
