Deshawn origin and meaning

American — constructed name

A constructed name: the prefix De- plus Shawn, the Irish form of John, 'God is gracious' — the construction is the documented pattern of 1960s–70s African-American name creation

Deshawn was built in the De- name wave: De- set before Shawn to make a distinct new name from a familiar one. It first appears in 1968 and peaked in 1997, and has fallen since. Because the construction — prefix plus base name — is exactly how these names were made, it can be stated and attested as such.
