Davin origin and meaning

Modern variant — two possible sources

Uncertain — either a variant of Devin (Irish, from a surname meaning 'poet', or a place name) or an elaboration of David with the -in ending; neither source is documented for this spelling

Davin appeared in 1960 and peaked in 2007, in the same decades as Devin's rise, and is most often read as its respelling. But its shape also suggests David extended, and no source settles which coinage produced it. With two plausible roots and no documentation, it is marked uncertain; it has fallen steadily since its peak.
